"Roots of the Game" Award

Presented in memory of John Wesley Patterson Jr., in recognition of outstanding contribution to the development of women’s field lacrosse in Ontario. Wes and Carol Patterson (Patterson/Canam Lacrosse) were longtime supporters of women’s field lacrosse in Ontario. Wes had a very strong belief in the spirit of the game, and through his words and actions, we caught a glimpse of that spirit. He made us feel excited about being a part of the game, and determined to find ways to make it better. Together, their generous support of women’s field lacrosse programs through the 80’s and 90’s ensured that the roots of the game were firmly planted from the start, providing a strong foundation for future growth.

"The Roots of the Game Award" will be presented to an individual, group or organization who/which have made a significant and lasting contribution to the grassroots and/or community development of women's field lacrosse in Ontario.

Application Date The "Roots of the Game Award" Committee will receive nominations annually from the lacrosse community by July 1st.

Required Documentation A detailed description of the contributions and impact to women’s lacrosse in Ontario
