Women's Field Lacrosse Crosses (Sticks)

At an OWL Special General Meeting held on January 18, 2004, club members approved the following CLA Recommendation:

"As of January 1, 2005, only sticks that have been approved by the IFWLA will be allowed in the in CLA sanctioned events."

The IFWLA has been superceded by the FIL.  The official FIL APPROVED CROSSES is continually updated and can be viewed below.

Protective Eyewear

Protective Eyewear is not mandated by the OWFL, but some players and families may choose to wear it.

Note: Some players that wear glasses have been wearing protective eyewear over their glasses. There is currently nothing in the rules to prevent this. However, some of the protective eyewear products are not designed to be worn over glasses and players should be aware of the potential dangers of using equipment in a manner that it was not intended.

Under 11 Soft Lacrosse Balls

As our youngest girls learn to play the sport of women's field lacrosse, the OWFL has agreed to continue the use of the soft pink lacrosse ball.

The Ball

The ball must be smooth rubber and may be any solid colour.  For games U13 and Up, the colour of the ball must be yellow.

The circumference of the ball shall not be less than 20 cm minimum or more than 20.3 cm maximum.

The ball shall weigh not less than 142g or more than 149g.  It must have a bounce of not less than 1.1 m and not more than 1.3 m when dropped from 1.8 m onto concrete at a temperature of approximately 18-23 degrees celcius.

Under 13 and Up Lacrosse Balls

As the girls mature and learn in the sport of women's field lacrosse, they graduate to a regular size and weight lacrosse ball so they can learn to "feel" the ball in their stick.

The women's field game utilizes the yellow lacrosse ball.
