Coaching Certification and Information

Women's Field Lacrosse Coaching Clinics

The Ontario Women's Lacrosse Organization, in conjunction with the OLA and CLA, organize women's field lacrosse clinics.  

Community Initiation

This year, the OWL is planning to offer a NEW clinic called Community Initiation.  Community Initiation is most appropriate for those planning on coaching house league only.  Coaches new to coaching U11, U13 and U15 are welcome as well.  This clinic is best suited to new coaches with no previous coaching or playing experience.  Coaches cannot coach rep teams after taking the Community Initiation clinic.  Clubs are welcome to host Community Initiation clinics.  Clubs interested in hosting should contact Todd Pepper (contact information below) with a date, time and location for the clinic no later than March 15, 2012.  There is a minimum of 10 participants required to run the clinic.

Community Coach Development

Two Clinics will take place:

Saturday, March 24th, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby

Saturday, May 5th, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby

Competitive Coach Introduction

Saturday, April 21st COMBINED WITH Saturday, May 5th, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby

*** This clinic also includes pre-clinic work which will be posted shortly.

Competitive Coach Introduction Completion Clinic

New this year will be a Competitive Introduction Completion Clinic.  The purpose of this clinic is to assist coaches who have taken the Competitive Coach Introduction clinic previously but have not finished the assignment.  It will be on the evening of Wednesday, March 28th - location to be announced.

Important Information and Reminders for Clubs

  1. The minimum age to attend a coaching clinic is 16.  However, there are programs for individuals who are younger than 16.  For information, please contact Todd Pepper (contact information is below).
  2. Todd is here to assist clubs in getting coaches certified.  He can help with any questions.
  3. Community Coach Development is the minimum certification required for any coach to be on the bench for Ontario Women's Field Lacrosse rep level play - Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 19 and Senior leagues. 
  4. For Under 19 teams competing at the Ontario Summer Games, at least one coach must be certified at the Competitive Coach Introduction level. 
  5. Coaches that have attended Community Coach Development clinics in previous years but have not mailed in their workbooks to Roxanne Curtis for evaluation are not considered certified coaches until their workbooks are submitted and are found to be of good quality.
  6. Clubs are reminded that managers are not permitted to be on "the bench" during games.  Up to three certified coaches and one certified trainer are the only non-playing individuals permitted on "the bench" during games.
